Westend Oval Sports Precinct, Griffith, NSW

The redevelopment of the Westend Oval Sports Precinct was recently completed by Griffith Regional Council, transforming the grounds and stadium into a modern sporting arena. The complex features seven indoor basketball courts with seating for 1000 people, seven all weather netball courts, an athletics track, synthetic hockey pitch, and new grandstand and lighting.

Project Design Brief

Designers had to incorporate an underground stormwater tank to deal with runoff from the site. This would comprise a detention tank that was quick and simple to assemble and enable easy access for inspection and cleaning. The tank would store and gradually release the stormwater runoff into the council’s downstream infrastructure while also allowing direct access for watering the sports fields.

ACO's Solution

Benefits

  • The unique pillar configuration provides a high void ratio of 97% for maximum storage.
  • Brick bonding and cross bonding provides unparalleled stability in the construction of the tank.
  • Maintenance and inspection points allow access to the tank‘s interior for irrigation and maintenance.
